8 Tips to Beat Insomnia and Get Peaceful Sleep!

1. Keep a sleeping schedule

clock

It really helps if you can jot down the amount of sleep you are getting. Also, going to sleep and waking up at the same time everyday puts your body in a natural rhythm. This way you will get sleep at the same time every day without troubles. It takes about a week or two to build that habit.

2. Eating and drinking with care

food

Be responsible with what you eat. It is not recommended to go on binge eating right before you sleep – your metabolism will be high and it will keep you from falling asleep. But also refrain from going to sleep hungry – you might find yourself awake out of hunger at the middle of the night. Plus, it is bad for your health. The best thing you can do is stay adequately hydrated, and eat light healthy food before going to sleep. Also, stay away from caffeine and alcohol before falling asleep.

3. Workout everyday

sport

Doing any kind of exercise helps. The more you exercise, the more your body will be tired while falling asleep and you will shake off all the excess energy that keeps you awake in the morning. This is why working out is the best way to ensure good sleep naturally. But make sure you don’t schedule your workouts too close to your sleeping time.

4. Think about all the happy things

Remember how your parents used to tell you bedtime stories that had a happy ending? It is scientifically proven that you need to feel calm and positive to fall asleep. Think of all the good things that happened during the day. Feel relaxed and engage in peaceful sleep.

5. Read a novel

Or a story book – whatever suits you. Books are also good for sparking your imagination and taking your mind off of all the things that you don’t want to be bothered about. Stay connected to books that you find interesting and make the ‘’before sleep” time your “me time”. Also, books might give you better dreams when you sleep.

6. Create a ritual around your sleepy time

This will compliment your sleep schedule. You could read books, or do something that relaxes you, like taking a shower before you go to sleep. This will put your body in a habit as it will adapt to the forthcoming sleep that you are planning to have.

7. Clear your mind

brain

One common mistake is to keep thinking about sleeping. Instead, you should think about things that bring happiness or relaxation to your mind. You can try out listening to some soothing music if that helps. Also, meditation and visualization are good ways to calm your mind before you sleep. Clear your mind and remain in your happy space. Do not worry about the next day.

8. Tidy your bed

It is important to make yourself feel comfortable. Set it the way you like it. You can also cover it in calming colors like blue, etc. You should feel like you are sleeping on a cloud.
